STEAMED FISH WITH SCALLIONS, GINGER, AND WOOD EAR MUSHROOMS

Giới thiệu

Today, I made steamed fish with soy sauce, onions, ginger, chili, and wood ear mushrooms. It was supposed to include vermicelli as well, but I ran out, so I had to skip it. 😆
This dish is quick to prepare because the fish is frozen and pre-prepared; you just need to place it in the pot. A tip to help the fish absorb the flavors and avoid too much water is to cover the fish with a lid to prevent water from dripping in.
This dish is perfect for anyone who wants to maintain their weight! Just eat a little rice, add some steamed vegetables, and dip them in the fish sauce—it's great for keeping the figure slim and the skin beautiful!

Steamed fish with scallions, ginger, and wood ear mushrooms is a delicate and aromatic dish that highlights the freshness of the fish while infusing it with rich, savory flavors. The fish, often a mild white variety like snapper or tilapia, is carefully seasoned with salt and a splash of soy sauce before being steamed to perfection. Scallions and thin slices of ginger are placed atop the fish, releasing their fragrant oils as they cook, adding layers of taste. Wood ear mushrooms, with their unique texture, are also added, absorbing the savory steam and enhancing the dish with their earthy flavor. The result is a light yet flavorful meal that celebrates the natural sweetness of the fish and the complementary ingredients. Often served with a drizzle of hot sesame oil and garnished with cilantro, this dish is a healthy and satisfying choice, perfect for a nourishing meal.

Did you know:
1. White fish: White fish refers to a variety of fish with light-colored, mild-flavored flesh, such as cod, haddock, or sole. These fish are often lean and low in fat, providing a good source of protein and essential nutrients like vitamins D and B12, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. White fish is versatile in cooking and can be grilled, baked, fried, or steamed, and it readily absorbs marinades and spices. Its delicate texture and flavor make it suitable for a wide range of dishes, from soups and stews to stir-fries and salads.

2. Ginger: Ginger is a fragrant root widely used in cooking for its unique spicy-sweet flavor. It is well-known for its medicinal properties, including its ability to ease nausea, improve digestion, and reduce inflammation. Ginger is rich in antioxidants and contains bioactive compounds like gingerol, which may have anti-inflammatory effects and support immune health. It can be used fresh, dried, or powdered in both sweet and savory dishes. In Asian cuisine, ginger is often used in stir-fries, marinades, and soups, offering a zesty and warming taste that enhances a wide variety of recipes.

3. Soy sauce: Soy sauce is a fermented condiment made from soybeans, wheat, salt, and a fermenting agent. It has a rich, umami flavor and is a staple in Asian cuisines, particularly in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cooking. Soy sauce adds depth and seasoning to dishes, such as stir-fries, soups, and marinades. It is also low in calories but high in sodium, so it should be used in moderation. Soy sauce can be found in various types, such as light, dark, and sweet, each with distinct characteristics. It enhances flavors and balances the taste in both savory and sweet preparations.

4. Wood ear mushrooms: Wood ear mushrooms are edible fungi known for their unique, crunchy texture and mild, slightly earthy flavor. They are often used in Asian cuisine, particularly in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean dishes, where they add a distinctive texture to soups, stir-fries, and salads. Wood ear mushrooms are low in calories and a good source of dietary fiber, iron, and vitamin D, supporting overall health. They are often sold dried, which needs to be rehydrated before use. The mushrooms' ability to absorb the flavors of the dishes they are cooked with makes them a popular ingredient in savory, flavorful recipes.

Weightwatchers (Opt for losing weight):
To make Steamed Fish with Scallions, Ginger, and Wood Ear Mushrooms more weight-loss-friendly, opt for a lean white fish like cod or tilapia, which are lower in calories. Reduce the sugar and use a natural sweetener or omit it entirely to decrease the overall calorie content. Use a minimal amount of soy sauce or a low-sodium version to reduce sodium intake. For flavor, rely more on ginger, chili, and pepper to enhance taste without adding extra calories. Substitute or reduce the amount of vinegar to keep it light, and ensure that the wood ear mushrooms and green onions are the primary texture elements, adding fiber without excess calories.

  • Pepper
Cách làm
  • Add everything into the pot except for the green onions.
